*What do all your tattoos mean?
= stands for means.
Elephant w/never forget = to never forget my boundaries, my thoughts, my beliefs, my morals, to never forget who I am. An elephant is said to “never forget” and they’re also my favorite animal.
Z? = It’s from Jhonen Vasquez’s comic Johnny The Homicidal Maniac. He’s one of my favorite artists and the main character Johnny is seen wearing shirts with Z? on them. It’s questioning sleep. The meaning of it, why we need to, what’s lost while we do. Johnny is an insomniac, and so am I. It’s me embracing my insomnia, as well as a token of my appreciation for that artist.
Fairies on my arm = It’s artwork off of Cage’s album “Depart From Me”. Alex Pardee is my idol, my all time favorite artist, and one of the main inspirations of why I am doing what I love for a living. It’s the beginning of an all Alex Pardee art appreciation sleeve. Each fairy represents a struggle I’ve overcome in life.
Ankle Charm Bracelet = It’s in memoriam of my father who passed away. Each charm has a certain meaning. Dale Earnhardt’s 3 is for my father’s favorite nascar driver, he loved him. Nascar was his favorite thing to watch. Plus, I’m one of the three children he has. The labrador retriever head is for my dog Brutus, he was my father’s pride & joy and is the last living remainder we have from my father. The snowflake is because his birthday is in December, mine is as well, and he died in January. It never fails to snow on one of those days every year. & The heart with dad charm is because the tattoo is for him and I love him & miss him very much.
Anchors = My bestfriend Kylee & I got 3 anchors on both of our bodies. They’re in different locations besides the one matching one. We’ve known each other since 3rd grade (why we got three) and we feel as if we’re each other’s anchors in life. We’re always there for each other to keep each other from going insane.
777 Casino style = This year 7’s have been popping up in my life. It’s my 7th year being vegan, 7th time I went to warped, 7th time I’ve seen TAS (one of my favorite bands) and I actually met them, & 7th year in my college career counting high school because I have been working for college & maintaining a scholarship since the start of high school. After the first 2 7’s I said i’d get this tattoo if another popped up & I am a woman of my word.
Cap’n Horatio Magellan Crunch Tattoo = This piece was inspired by The Wonder Years song “Bout To Get Fruit Punched, Homie” off of Get Stoked On It. This band’s music had got me through a lot of hard times, but certain lines in this song really stood out to me and stuck with me. I though now would be the most appropriate time to get it, since some crap has been getting me down lately. The piece was inspired by the line “Thought I had people I could trust, like my boy Cap’n Crunch. I know he’d never do me like that. But behind my back, I found her mouth all cut up, & his hat in the corner. Yo homes you don’t know what I’m capable of.” paired with “I’ll disconnect, the captain’s neck, and make him wish, that he was dead.” So the piece is Cap’n decapitated and mounted onto a board. It’s on my right thigh.
Hammer & Sickle = I played tattoo roulette and I ended up with the hammer & sickle. It’s on the inside of my right foot. I’ve always liked history & learning about the cold war, & my first name is russian, so it didn’t really bother me that this was the tattoo I had to get in the game haha.
Bart Simpson = I wanted to feel what it was like to tattoo myself. So I took an iconic image from my childhood and freehanded him on the inside of my left foot next to my anchor.
Sugar Skull = My friend Andy is learning to tattoo & needed a model. I gladly volunteered. He picked a sugar skull. I agreed because I love what they symbolize. It’s celebrating the life of the loved ones they’ve lost to death, instead of mourning. Being an artist, death is a constant factor in art, and I love the sugar skulls way of dealing with death.
